Charred Remains is a six-issue series that promises to set your soul on fire. Written by Anthony Cleveland (Stargazer, Show’s End), with artwork from Andrea Mutti (A Legacy of Violence) and lettering by Taylor Esposito, this series promises to keep you on the edge of your seat. The debut issue drops this December.
When it comes to creating the perfect mystery-horror comic book, the story, artwork, and lettering all play a vital role. Charred Remains has all the elements of a great comic. First off, the artwork jumps off the page. Andrea Mutti really know what he is doing when it comes to creating a visually attractive horror comic. The art style captures the intensity and heat of the inferno, which plays a significant role in the story. It’s amazing how the artwork can elevate the suspense and make the scenes more surreal.
The writing is similarly impressive. Anthony Cleveland has once again proven he can handle the pen behind the comic pages. The script does a great job of setting up the story for the rest of the series. The story doesn’t feel rushed or forced. Instead, it has the perfect pace to keep you entertained and intrigued. The theme of trauma that Amy faces after losing her family in a fire brings depth to the story. The suspense behind “The Fire Man,” the villain of our story, makes it all the more gripping. The writing is definitely one of the highlights of this comic.
Charred Remains doesn’t rely solely on the artwork and writing; the lettering also plays a significant role in building the suspense. Taylor Esposito’s lettering is spot on, creating a sense of urgency in the right moments.
What also sets Charred Remains apart is its unique take on the horror genre. The creators have managed to bring something new to the table by introducing a symbolic villain made of fire, smoke, and ash. This is a refreshing change, considering how saturated the horror genre is with vampires, werewolves, and zombies. This series has such a grounded feel which adds to the horrific story.
Charred Remains is a promising start to the six-issue series. Anthony Cleveland’s writing, Andrea Mutti’s artwork, and Taylor Esposito’s lettering come together to create a haunting masterpiece that is not to be missed. The series has a perfect balance of horror, suspense, and storytelling.
