In a world where everyone gets a genie to give them one wish, Amazon has used that wish to get the rights to the hit comic “Eight Billion Genies.”
Amazon announced they have purchased the rights to Eight Billion Genies, a comic series co-created by Charles Soule (Star Wars, Undiscovered Country, Curse Words) and Ryan Browne (God Hates Astronauts, Curse Words). The comic series is expected to last eight issues with only two issues released as of June 29.
No writer or filmmaker has been attached yet, although Soule and Browne will act as executive producers.
The deal is significant for Amazon as it includes not only a feature film, but series and more. However, Eight Billion Genies will kick-off its expansive cross-media universe with a feature film.
Eight Billion Genies is a limited comic book series released first in May with the simple approach of What if every single person on the planet got a genie and one wish? The creative team of Soule and Browne, who have worked together in the past on Curse Words, gives you as the reader a great depiction of what really would happen if eight billion people made a wish at the same time.
As most everyone knows it takes a good deal of time for things to move from the comic pages to the small or big screen, but getting your property picked up is the first step in the long journey.
The aforementioned Curse Words is also being developed as a series after it was optioned in 2019. However, no information as to who picked up the rights or anything else has been announced. Additionally, Soule has Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country in the works for film and tv as well.
