Review Overview

It’s been nearly 30 years since I lasted watched Biker Mice from Mars on CRT television and did memories sure flood back when reading the premiere issue of Biker Mice from Mars from Oni Press!

Best friends Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie were just three anthropomorphic, motorcycle-riding mice who called Mars home…and were always bad to the bone. But when the ruthless Plutarkians stage a mass invasion to strip their planet of its precious resources, their antiauthoritarian streak is going to turn into a full-blown insurgency. Only the Biker Mice from Mars can prevent the mass destruction of Earth’s neighbor…and the freedom of our entire solar system may just hang in the balance.

While not a perfect comic book issue, Biker Mice from Mars #1 surely scratched the nostalgic itch. Fans of the original animated series will be thrilled to see their favorite characters back in action, riding their motorcycles and taking on villains with their signature style. The artwork from Eisner Award-nominated artist Francis Portela brings to life our favorite moto mice from the 1990s with their own touch, appealing to new and old fans.

The story by Melissa Flores might not be groundbreaking in Biker Mice from Mars #1, but it does a great job setting up the series and introducing the main characters in a way that brings back memories but also allows new readers to know the gang. We get a glimpse the world of Mars and the threats posed against it. The premiere issue sets the state for what looks to be an exciting action-packed miniseries.

Biker Mice from Mars is an entertaining nostalgic read. Longtime fans of the franchise should get excited to see Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie back in action, while newcomers discovering these motorcycle-riding mice for the first time get to see what all the hype is about. Take a ride and check out the premiere issue and enjoy a nostalgic time!

Biker Mice from Mars #1 hits local comic shops on July 17, 2024 from Oni Press in the NacelleVerse.
