Hot off the successfully funded BOOM! Direct Reserve Campaign, BOOM! Studios is thrilled to announce that the Hunt for the Skinwalker single issue series will be available in comic shops beginning in September 2023.
Working hand-in-hand with Dr. Colm Kelleher and George Knapp, and incorporating never-before-seen new revelations, writer Zac Thompson (Cable) and artist Valeria Burzo (Castle Full of Blackbirds) adapts the category-defying, godfather of modern day paranormal research non-fiction book, Hunt for the Skinwalker.
Inspired by one family’s confrontation with the unexplainable and terrifying. And what happened when they invited the largest scientific investigation of the paranormal to their ranch.
Zac Thompson is a multidisciplinary writer from Prince Edward Island, Canada. He is best known for his indie titles The Dregs, Undone by Blood, and I Breathed A Body. Zac’s also written titles for Marvel Comics like Ka-Zar: Lord of the Savage Land and The Marvellous X-Men. In 2022, Thompson’s original screenplay The Replacer was selected for production financing from Telefilm Canada. When Zac’s not out in nature foraging for mushrooms or cycling you can find him at the cinema or walking his dog Astra.
“Adapting the seminal paranormal novel Hunt for the Skinwalker into the comics medium is one of the most thrilling projects in my career. It’s an out-of-this-world true story that constantly builds to new heights and thanks to Valeria’s incredible storytelling on the page, it’s jam-packed with stunning imagery that will linger with readers long after they’ve turned the final page,” said writer Zac Thompson.
Valeria Burzo is a comic book artist born in Naples, Italy. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, she studied the art of comics at the Italian School of Comix. After publishing in Italy for Novel Comix, Edizioni Inchiostro and Marotta & Cafiero Editore, in 2020 she made her debut in the United States with The Witches of World War II published by TKO Presents. In 2022 she worked on Castle Full of Blackbirds published by Dark Horse Comics. She is currently doing work for BOOM! Studios and Mad Cave Studios.
“I’m really happy to work with Zac on this project. The story is fantastic–it tells of a family trying at all costs to save their ranch from the frightening unknown,” said artist Valeria Burzo. “I’ve always wished I could draw a story about the paranormal. I have to thank Zac who has produced a formidable script that will allow us to better realize this project. I’m really enthusiastic.”
Hunt for the Skinwalker #1 has a main cover by Martin Simmonds (Night of the Ghoul), with variants by Suspiria Vilchez (Grim), and Justine Florentino (Grim).
“Everything about the Gorman Ranch is unbelievable when you first hear about it,” said editor Jon Moisan. “But George and Colm did such a methodical job reporting on what was happening, it becomes undeniable that something is happening on that property. What is truly exciting for me is getting to work with Zac and Valeria to bring this seminal text to life in comics. Seeing, as they say, is believing.”
Hunt for the Skinwalker #1 will be available in comic shops September 6, 2023. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Kindle.
