The Disney D23 Expo took place from September 9-11, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. with news and announcements from the wonderful world of Marvel and more.

With all the news coming from the expo, here is a breakdown of the Marvel D23 announcements.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Footage

The exclusive Black Panther: Wakanda Forever footage showed a world eager to pick off Wakanda at its lowest point after the death of T’Challa. Their stocks of Vibranium has made the nation a valuable target, though Queen Ramonda is a formidable opponent for anyone trying to get one over on Wakanda. There was also a scene of newcomer Namor (Tenoch Huerta) fighting M’Baku (Winston Duke).

The footage seems won’t be shown to the general public online.

Ironheart First Teaser Trailer

The very first trailer for the upcoming Ironheart Disney+ series was shown to the attendees in the Marvel D23 panel, but not online. Actor Anthony Ramos has also spoken about his character, the lead villain in the series. Ramos describes his character as “a complex guy who kicks ass”, and Kevin Feige says he deals with dark art and magic, which makes his clash with the tech-powered RiRi unique.

Werewolf By Night

Werewolf by Night Release Date and Trailer

A Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: Werewolf by Night was co-directed by Michael Giacchino and Jaycob Maya. The special stars Gael García Bernal as the title character along with Laura Donnelly. The Marvel D23 trailer also gives us a first-look at Man-Thing.

Set those spooky calendars for October 7, 2022 as we get our first special from the minds of Marvel Studios on Disney+.

Secret Invasion Trailer Released

Marvel Studios dropped the first look at Secret Invasion and it looks like everything we could’ve imagined. “I’m the last person standing between them and what they really want,” says Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nicky Fury.

Secret Invasion will hit Disney+ in early 2023 as a limited series created by Kyle Bradstreet. It is intended to be the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series sees Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury from the film series, along with Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, with Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle also starring.

New cast members will include Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Carmen Ejogo, Christopher McDonald, Dermot Mulroney, and Killian Scott. Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim will direct the episodes.

Armor Wars Gets New Logo

Armor Wars gets a new logo and confirmed to be still happening after being absent from San Diego Comic-Con in July. Don Cheadle’s next series is Armor Wars, which sees Stark tech fall into the wrong hands, and it follows right on from Secret Invasion.

Loki Season 2 Casting News

Everything Everywhere All at Once and Indiana Jones actor Ke Huy Quan is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of Loki Season two. The second season is scheduled to debut on Disney+ in mid-2023, and will consist of six episodes. It will be part of Phase Five of the MCU.

Fantastic Four

News, other than the confirmation of WandaVision Director Matt Shakman set to direct Fantastic Four, was absent from the Marvel D23 panel. Disappointing some fans, but there is still time between now and the film’s release in 2024.

Daredevil: Born Again

Daredevil: Born Again begins filming in 2023 and was confirmed as an 18-episode first season. The series will also be a reboot of the Charlie Cox lead Netflix series. As a teaser, the crowd got a sneak peek of Daredevil’s upcoming appearance in She-Hulk. Jennifer Walters and Matt Murdock are busy discussing the stealth versus smash approach to taking out criminals.

The show also got a new title card logo update as part of the Marvel D23 panel.

Captain America: New World Order Casting Update

Tim Blake Nelson is back as The Leader in Captain America: New World Order (14 years after being teased in The Incredible Hulk), and expect an expanded role for Danny Ramirez, likely as Falcon. “I’m nervous, I’m excited,” says Anthony Mackie about starring as Captain America at the Marvel D23 panel.

Thunderbolts Roster Announced

Thunderbolts will star Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava/Ghost, David Harbour as Red Guardian and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine all part of the Thunderbolts team. Concept art at the Marvel D23 panel also revealed Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier and Black Widow‘s Taskmaster might be part of the team. Thunderbolts is out July 26, 2024.
