Disney launched the Disney+ streaming service on November 21, 2020 to outstanding success. To celebrate the first anniversary, the house of mouse hosted the inaugural Disney+ Day releasing new programs, announcing future projects and more. This year’s Disney+ Day will take place September 8, 2022 with Pinocchio, Thor, and more!
This year’s event big release is Thor: Love and Thunder in streaming form, as well as a behind the scenes look at the making of the film entitled Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder. Additionally, Obi-Wan Kenobi gets a making-of program, Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return. Disney+ Day 2022 also happens to fall on the same day as the fourth episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Disney will also release the new live-action remake of Pinocchio starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, Cynthia Erivo as The Blue Fairy, Luke Evans as The Coachman, Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli, Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick, and Sheila Atim as Signora Vitelli. The film also stars the voices of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Keegan-Michael Key as “Honest” John Worthington Foulfellow, and Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) from a screenplay by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz (American Pie, Rogue One).
Pixar’s new Cars spinoff series Cars on the Road hits the streaming service as well as “Welcome to the Club,” a new animated short from The Simpsons. This was announced by Disney+ on Twitter.
This year’s Disney+ Day will precede Disney’s D23 Expo which takes place in Anaheim, Calif. from September 9-11, 2022. The expo is expected to see more news from Marvel Studios.
