Space, Love, and Drama in Hyper Aware

Review Overview

Jonathan Hedrick releasing a new comic and it taking place in space is a combination that will always get a shot with this comic book reader. That’s the combo we get in the Hyper Aware one-shot.

Written by Hedrick (The Recount, Caffeinated Hearts) with illustrations and cover by Debora Lancianese (Lorem, Jericho) comes another one-shot comic at Source Point Press.

After three astronauts are stranded in deep space, they learn that only two of them will be able to enter hypersleep for the long return home. One of the crew members makes the difficult decision to remain awake and live the rest of his life alone with only the spacecraft’s onboard A.I. for company. But when the other two astronauts wake up, they discover something horrible has happened while they were unconscious!

I always have a soft spot in my heart for anything connected to space as my son’s name is Nova, so when I heard Hedrick was releasing a comic in space it was a must read. In addition to the great story by Hedrick, the layouts, illustration and colors only add to the story. The lettering is outstandingly fantastic, something that really stood out when reading.

Hedrick’s ability to allow us to care for the characters within the pages of the book is wonderful. Storytelling is definitely a strong suit for the writer and won’t disappoint. Picking up the one-shot of Hyper Aware is worth it and while you are at it grab Caffeinated Hearts and The Recount. Hyper Aware one-shot will hit your local comic book shop on October 19, 2022.

Hendrick joined the Capes and Tights Podcast back a few months ago to discuss his widely popular mini-series The Recount.
