Thanos has been a favorite Marvel villain of mine for many years and Thanos: Titan Consumed by Barry Lyga simply added to my love of the Mad Titan. Lyga tells a new story where the plot is more than just a big bad punching things.
Born on a doomed world and made an outcast for his physical deviancy and intimidating intellect, Thanos believes he sees something everyone else chooses to ignore: a way to save his home and the people of Titan for generations to come. But what he perceives as genius, they see as madness. Now exiled from his home world, Thanos is determined to find the means to return to Titan and implement his plan. His journey through the galaxy is a desperate race to save everything. Thanos will be successful-no matter how many billions have to die to bring balance to the universe.
Barry Lyga’s take on the purple villain is one that we really could sink our teeth into. The depth provided by the author in this refreshing story is truly remarkable. While we were slightly afraid this book would be more of a rehash of what happens in Avengers: Infinity War (as it is technically a movie tie-in), we were pleasantly surprised to get a parallel story. The book was almost like a new Marvel Cinematic Universe story in book format that explores different aspects of the Thanos character and his motivations.
This novel is not just a big bad punching someone; it goes deeper into Thanos as a character and his journey from Titan to the menacing force we all saw on the big screen in Infinity War and Endgame. While Lyga brings action and the destruction of entire populations, the book also adds depth and emption to Thanos that makes you almost feel his pain.
Comics, movies and books based on comic book characters should be for everyone and with Thanos: Titan Consumed we believe Lyga does just that. This book was written for ages 12 and up, but really is for young and old. An easier read with a lot packed into it for fans of Marvel and Thanos in particular.
Thanos: Titan Consumed explores the complexities of Thanos’ psyche and how it shaped him as the Mad Titan. Barry Lyga’s fresh take on Thanos offers new perspective on the character while staying true to his roots. This book is truly one of the great Thanos stories and is a must-read for all Marvel fans.
Thanos: Titan Consumed is available at bookstores everywhere.
