Ghostbusters: Afterlife released theatrically on November 19, 2021 and digitally on January 4, 2022. The movie was made for roughly $75 million and had a box office take of $197.3 million, while being released during a pandemic.
Afterlife was produced and directed by Jason Reitman and written by Gil Kenan and Reitman. The film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and many more.
This film features a single mom and her two kids arriving in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
The latest film is the sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989), both directed by Reitman’s father Ivan Reitman. Afterlife is based 32 years following the events of the 1989 film.
While Sony has yet to confirm any further sequels to Afterlife, Aykroyd expressed interest in having the surviving three actors of the original Ghostbusters team continuing to reprise their roles for as many as three sequels, as long as they are alive.
