The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the standard for superhero films these days, but the following five films are worth the watch!
Blade (1998)
Blade really started out the world of movies based on comic books. Some will say X-Men in 2000, but really it was Wesley Snipe‘s portrayal of Blade that kicked things off in Hollywood.
Written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel), directed by Stephen Norrington (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) Blade is worth the watch if you want more Marvel movies in your life.
Blade starred Snipes with Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson and N’Bushe Wright in supporting roles.
Spider-Man (2002)
Spider-Man took the world by storm in 2002 with an outstanding box office of $825 million. Directed by Sam Raimi (Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, Evil Dead) with a screenplay by David Koepp (Secret Window, KIMI).
The first Spidey flick stars Tobey Maguire, alongside Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Cliff Robertson, and Rosemary Harris.
With the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home this film has connection the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is well worth the watch.
Deadpool (2016)
One of the funniest Marvel movies to ever be made. Deadpool is a classic and a must-watch for all comic book fans.
Deadpool was directed by Tim Miller (Terminator: Dark Fate) and written by Rhett Reese (Zombieland) and Paul Wernick (Zombieland, 6 Underground). The film stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role alongside Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand.
The sequel, Deadpool 2, is also a worthwhile watch.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018)
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is the only animated Marvel feature film, but damn it is amazingly made. The mix of great animation, music and story makes it a must-watch.
Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, from a screenplay by Phil Lord (The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part) and Rothman. Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, alongside the voices of Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Luna Lauren Vélez, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn, Nicolas Cage, and Liev Schreiber.
A sequel to the film will be released on June 2, 2023.
Logan (2017)
The X-Men franchise is huge, but the best of all the films is Logan…be far. In 2029, no mutants have been born in 25 years, and an aging Logan suffers as his healing ability is failing.
It is directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine, Ford v Ferrari), who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Green (Smallville, Heroes) and Scott Frank (Flight of the Phoenix, Minority Report), from a story by Mangold. Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine with Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen.
